Idowu Akanmu, MPH, MS, PMP

Technical Advisor, Malaria & Health Systems

Idowu Akanmu has over 20 years of experience leading global health programs across Africa, with a strong focus on malaria control, health systems strengthening, and drug safety. Beginning his career with Africare and the Global Fund, he managed large scale community health initiatives, training thousands of healthcare workers and expanding access to life saving interventions. At Malaria Consortium he introduced rapid diagnostic testing and led seasonal malaria chemoprevention campaigns.

He later joined Johns Hopkins University's Breakthrough ACTION project, where he advised Nigeria's National Malaria Elimination Program, conducted behavioral economics research, and supported large scale insecticide treated net distribution. Building on his foundation as a PMP, he worked in pharmacovigilance project management at ProEdge Consulting, contributing to IND submissions, risk management plans, and adverse event reporting for investigational products.

He currently serves as Project Director for a Gates Foundation funded malaria initiative, overseeing program implementation, monitoring frameworks, and partnerships with ministries of health and donors.
