Research

Research shaped by
real-world questions.

Avarynth conducts and supports research connected to public health, health systems, implementation, policy, programs, organizations, and communities.

Our approach begins with the question that needs to be answered, the context in which it arises, and how the resulting evidence will be used.

Current Research

Questions under active investigation.

Our current research reflects Avarynth's interest in questions that connect systems, implementation, behavior, policy, access, and equity.

Research 01

Mapping Structural and Behavioral Gaps in Nigeria’s Antimicrobial Resistance Response

This collaborative research examines structural and behavioral factors shaping antimicrobial resistance in Nigeria.

The work considers how formal systems and everyday practice interact within Nigeria’s antimicrobial resistance response.

Scaling Coverage Without Achieving Equity: Racial and Age Disparities in Maternal Influenza and Tdap Vaccination, United States, 2012–2022

This Avarynth-led research examines racial and age disparities in maternal influenza and Tdap vaccination in the United States.

The study considers whether improvements in overall vaccination coverage have translated into equitable outcomes across population groups.

Accepted for presentation at the APHA 2026 Annual Meeting.

How We Investigate

The method follows the question.

Different research questions require different approaches. Avarynth draws on methods and disciplines suited to the problem, context, available evidence, and intended use of the work.

  1. 01

    Applied Research

Research addressing practical questions arising from programs, institutions, policies, systems, and communities.

  2. 02

    Implementation Research

Research examining how programs, interventions, policies, and practices are introduced, delivered, adapted, adopted, and sustained in real settings.

  3. 03

    Operational Research

Inquiry into how programs, services, and systems function in practice, including implementation barriers and opportunities for improvement.

  4. 04

    Program Evaluation

Assessment of program design, implementation, performance, outcomes, and learning needs using approaches appropriate to the assignment.

  5. 05

    Qualitative Research

Inquiry into experiences, behaviors, stakeholder perspectives, institutional processes, implementation conditions, and context.

  6. 06

    Monitoring & Evaluation

Measurement and evaluation approaches that support understanding of implementation, progress, performance, and learning.

  7. 07

    Evidence Synthesis & Knowledge Translation

Bringing together existing evidence and translating it into useful forms for policy, programs, implementation, and decision-making.

  8. 08

    Health Economics & Cost Effectiveness

Economic evaluation and cost-effectiveness work where appropriate to the research question and available expertise.

Our Approach

Start with the decision the evidence needs to inform.

  1. 01

    Frame

Clarify the problem, research question, stakeholders, context, and intended use.

  2. 02

    Design

Select methods and an analytical approach suited to the question.

  3. 03

    Generate

Collect, organize, analyze, or synthesize evidence.

  4. 04

    Interpret

Understand what the evidence means within the relevant program, policy, system, organizational, or community context.

  5. 05

    Translate

Turn research into useful knowledge for decisions, implementation, policy, learning, or further inquiry.

Publications & Technical Outputs

Research becomes useful through what it produces.

Research and evaluation can lead to different forms of output depending on the question, audience, and intended use.

These may include peer-reviewed publications, technical reports, policy briefs, conference presentations, research summaries, evidence products, frameworks, and other technical outputs.
